MEERKAT MEDIA COLLECTIVE IS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS!

The work and resources of the collective are primarily focused on filmmaking, but artists  in other media who are able to make robust use of our resources are also encouraged to apply.

MEERKAT MEDIA COLLECTIVE  is a dedicated and close-knit group of artists that are actively working on projects (individually or collaboratively) and are supported by the collective resources based in our work space in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Collective members provide mutual aid for one another’s projects and artistic development, have access to shared production and post-production equipment, attend an annual creative retreat and receive a monetary stipend (this year’s stipend is $1000, distributed in two $500 stipends across the year.) This is a self-governed collective which operates through a well-developed consensus process. We facilitate our own meetings, are each part of a working group that runs an aspect of the group and are expected to attend a series of gatherings throughout the year. Membership is a yearlong commitment with the opportunity to extend, and newly selected members will join existing members continuing on from previous years.

Meerkat Media Collective is part of MEERKAT MEDIA, a creative community committed to sharing resources and skills to incubate individual and shared creative work. Over the last 14 years, Meerkat has produced multiple feature documentaries, fiction films, music videos and dozens of artful short films while prioritizing a collaborative process that values diverse experience and expertise. We support thoughtful and provocative stories that reflect a complex world. Since its founding in 2005, Meerkat has grown to include a cooperatively-owned production company in addition to the collective of artists-in-residence. Our work has been broadcast on HBO, PBS, and many other networks, and screened at festivals worldwide, including Sundance, Tribeca, Rotterdam and CPH:Dox.

Applications are due by 11:59pm on Friday, November 1st.

Only a few spaces are available and decisions are all made by the current members of the collective. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a mandatory Meet ‘n’ Greet on Saturday, December 7, 2019. New residents will be welcomed by January 2020.
