nothing to lose
January 25th, 2007 by ginaone of my grad students is having a screening of his documentary from last year (which also just got distribution)
it deals with fat activists or folks that work to make the world more accepting of size (specifically larger sizes) : as someone who is a supporter of both healthy living and acceptance of one’s self, i am interested to see how the film deals with the connection between being overweight and health.

This film presents the struggle of a group of activists as they try to legitimize their beliefs through mass-media, local actions, as well as their plans for interventions via the legal system. By adopting the provocative position that linking fat with ill-health is misguided and legitimizes prejudicial attitudes and behavior toward those with fat bodies, Nothing to Lose is a film that encourages its viewers to rethink the stereotypes and assumptions that they hold about body size. The film participates and documents the activities of fat activists as they plan what should be done when it has been decided that they have Nothing to Lose.
Post-screening Q & A with the filmmaker and a panel of activists featured in the film.
