THE 3-DAY WORKSHOP CURRICULUM

Political activists face serious health and first aid challenges. This standard 3-DAY workshop is an introduction to protest first aid and aftercare. It will prepare you to act as an affinity group-level medic and to take care of your friends and your community. There will be intensive scenarios, but also time for lunch and a few breaks built into the weekend.

Those of you who already have advanced first aid training or other health training will want to take this course as we cover many things that are specific to protest health care. People with no first aid training will learn valuable first aid skills they can use everywhere, not just at protests. We will also talk about how you can continue your training and maintain the skills you will learn. Expect to have a lot of fun, be active, and learn a lot!

You will learn: How to be a health resource for your activist community Basic protest safety for you and your affinity group.

Chemical weapons (pepper spray, etc.) decontamination Aftercare and jail support (includes some herbal remedies)

ABCs (Scene survey, scene management, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, spinal cord precautions, triage)

Dress as if you were going to a protest. Sensible shoes and rain-gear required; you may get wet and sandals are not recommended

Bring all the other gear you’d bring if you were going to a protest. Bring a small, squirt-top water bottle that’s still sealed.

Bring a lunch and snacks for yourself and anything else you may need to be comfortable.

Bring your friends!
