adrienne, lee, sally and i met up in austin, tx, put on some dresses and broke out the camera.
we found out after we made this that (according to the internet) the title of this cem karaca song means something like “my woman’s virginity makes me troubled”.
Better late than never. After five months of telling people that there would be a ‘new cartoon soon’ we finally got the new episode back from the Korean animation studio. Now we can say ‘new cartoon soon’ about a whole new cartoon that we haven’t even started yet.
Our friend Elliott, who just left New York (linesblog.com), was an enormous help and made all of the music and voiced about half of the cartoon. We love you Elliott.
Meerkat Media’s first feature length documentary Stages is making an appearance at the annual IFP Market from Sept. 16-21.
—
IFP stands for Independent Feature Project and is a great organization that works to help independent filmmakers get their work into the world. Each fall IFP puts on a market that unites fillmakers with “the industry” – programmers, distributors, lawyers, venues etc…through meetings, workshops, screenings and other networking events. As part of the market, our 17 minute Work-In-Progress cut of Stages is playing on the big screen:
It’s only open to registered members of the market, but if you’ve got a good reason that you want to come we have a few special invitations, so please contact us. We can’t wait to meet everyone at the Market and to see Juanita, Lucy, Min, David, Monserate and everyone on the big screen on Thursday.Get a special sneak peak with our two-minute trailer below!
Cake Bake Betty’s new album, TO THE DARK TOWER will be released this Fall (look for it at infinity cat) and we thought we’d celebrate with some 80’s-movie-inspired BBALL action (sadly, Michael J. Fox wasn’t available).
the name of the song is ‘oklahoma city’. and yes, we are very, very serious.
p.s. SUPERTHANKS to all the folks who came out to make this shoot fun and spectacular, especially Michael Shick and Gina Telaroli, who shot all thirty hours of footage.
this past sunday, a group of meerkats and meerkat friends got together to participate in meerkat media’s first ever freeschool workshop. our goal was to share knowledge, encourage open learning and share skills across our community. this workshop dealt with shooting video and the operation of the DVX100 camera.
everyone broke off into three teams, each team had an identical list of 20 different things related to the operation of the dvx100 that needed to be captured on video. teams were able to use any locations they wanted – but had to work in the given time restrictions of 5 hours.
the catch was that beyond just compiling the shots : each team had to film the list in order and simultaneously use in-camera editing to create a cohesive video that we screened that night! (click on the thumbnails below to watch!)
we would love for others to participate in our workshop : if you are interested in making a video, our lists of tasks and guidelines are posted below the videos. the following is what we came up with!
We had a fundraiser, and a whole buncha folks came out! We surpassed our goal, met lots of cool people, and there was a dance party which included dancing, and also fun.
For all the love we got, we sent out some thank you cards, but we didn’t have everyone’s address. So, with this here video, we’re offering up a little something for those who are “online only” MKM fans.
The adage “in war, truth is the first casualty” is generally attributed to the ancient Greek playwrite Aeschylus, and the words still ring true a few millenia later.
Over Memorial Day weekend 2007, members of Iraq Veterans Against the War revived Aeschylus’ saying with Operation First Casualty. Simulating sniper fire and mass detentions on the streets of Manhattan, these antiwar veterans brought home a small piece of the Iraq War, and the meerkats were there to film it.
almost two months ago, some meerkats participated in planning, executing, filming and documenting a spate of antiwar actions marking four years of war in Iraq.
here’s a video history of the actions that went down that weekend, including our new, untitled 9-minute doc about the Ya Basta actions which took place on Wall Street, two short vids produced the weekend-of, and a link to orangeoveralls.net, the Ya Basta website. right on!
when josh’s hard drive went south, we thought this episode was a goner. we did the logical thing and used the internet to get the number of a russian computer repairman named eugene. he did his thing and somehow we had our data back in less than a week. the whole ordeal shook up the little guy, but he’s a trooper.
