Introducing TRAVELING LIGHT!

August 19, 2010

This past February a bunch of Meerkats boarded a train with our friends in the Goddamn Cobras Collective with the goal of making a collaborative movie about train travel. From that trip we’ve been cutting together a film called TRAVELING LIGHT, a unique blend of fiction and documentary, narrative and experiment — an evocative portrait of the shifting American landscape that shows the journey truly is the destination.

We’re very excited to share a new teaser trailer for the project with you all along with our new tumblr. The tumblr (http://trainfilm.tumblr.com) will feature footage from our journey and some of our favorite cinema inspired train moments. Be sure to keep checking back for updates

The teaser is below!

(really famous) artists helping (really famous) artists

August 6, 2010

This is a really lovely behind-the-scenes video of Terry Gilliam goofing around with Arcade Fire before their madison square garden web-casted performance (directed by the former). You must watch until the end.

I have been riding around listening to their nostalgia-inducing new album, The Suburbs, especially this song. Thanks, Win Butler, for singing my journal.

Brasslands featured on IndieWIRE

June 13, 2010

We are proud to announce that we’ve been featured in indieWIRE magazine, one of the top sources for independent film news and buzz. Each week, they feature a select few of their favorite upcoming films – Brasslands recently caught their attention!

indieWIRE is a fantastic publication to be noticed by: it was lauded as a “must read” by Variety, branded the “online heartbeat of the world’s independent film community” by Forbes, dubbed “best indie crossroads” by film critic Roger Ebert, and Entertainment Weekly writes that “the straightforward no-nonsense reporting most sites lack can be found here in abundance.”

Filmed in Port-au-Prince with the Canon 5d.

POWfest fun!

March 25, 2010

A few of us got to spend the weekend at the POWfest (Portland, Oregon Women’s film fest) where we were representing our feature doc Stages and meeting lots of nice and talented lady makers. We got to be a part of Andrea Leoncavallo‘s photo project dedicated to inspiring/inspired women — which is absolutely worth a gander:

An excellent weekend all around! Thank you, POWfest, thank you Portland, thank you talented women!
