don’t stare at the ground while you walk:
April 3rd, 2007 by ginawhen i woke up today, i was kind of sad…no one big thing to cause the sadness, just a flurry of thoughts (and perhaps a few dreams to set the stage)
the sadness continued to grow when i contemplated the fact that i was about to spend 8 hours behind a desk, letting another day just kind of go by…
it only worsened when i got off the subway and was walking down the street directly towards my office….
but then..
i looked up and heading right towards me was howard zinn!!
he looked right at me, smiled and nodded.
an unexpected moment that came at exactly the right time… it made me want to give a zinn shout-out:
so here is an excerpt from “you can’t be neutral on a moving train”

Another Zinny story:
ONCE UPON A TIME a friend from Sarah Lawrence was working one summer at a restaraunt on Cape Cod or something, and developed a rapport with her regular customers. One of these was a nice old man who ate soup a lot and always tipped really generously.
The end of the season came, as it must, and the old man announced that he was leaving for the winter. My friend wished him well and, after he’d gone, remarked to a co-worker that he’d been a friendly customer.
“Yeah,” her co-worker said, “That Howard Zinn is such a nice man.”
